This week at ATCC, our annual summer 'Social Fridays' returned with our first fixture being played against London Zoo (ZSL). Victory this year was narrowly secured by ZSL in a close match.
For those interested, this fixture was first played in 1927 but why do we play this every year? In those days Sir Anthony Wingfield had a very large house and grounds in Ampthill and kept his own private zoo. It was normal to see his keepers riding or driving strange animals through Ampthill. With the animal connection, Sir Anthony was very involved with ZSL but was also President of Ampthill Town Cricket Club and a keen cricket fan. So what started as just one match, has continued over the many years since.
Social Fridays are always a great evening and eagerly anticipated. Next week we face Ampthill Rugby Club in what is always a great fixture. Our members, families, friends and supporters are all welcome so do join us from 5.30pm - both the bar and BBQ will be open.
Remember, you can't do enough for a good club!
